The Daily AI Brief and Emerging AI Watch prioritize primary-origin sources that can reveal papers, models, code, releases, and emerging practices early. Newsletters and aggregators remain useful for discovery and catching up, but they do not replace original evidence.

Every candidate still passes freshness, authority, evidence-quality, novelty, relevance, and duplication checks. Community discussion can identify a lead or a limitation; consequential claims must be traced to an original paper, model card, repository, official release, system card, or other authoritative evidence. Preprints and vendor-reported results are labeled for what they are.

1. arXiv — cs.AI, cs.LG, and cs.CL

Monitoring: Public monitoring

High-volume first public posting point for AI and language-model research.

Evidence treatment: Primary research lead. Verify the paper, authors, submission date, methods, limitations, and later versions; preprint status is not peer review.

2. X — verified researchers and AI labs

Monitoring: Assisted review

Fast release signals, demonstrations, replication notes, and early critiques from named researchers and labs.

Evidence treatment: Discovery signal only. Confirm account identity, follow every claim to original evidence, and do not treat screenshots, engagement, or reposts as validation.

3. Hugging Face Hub and Daily Papers

Monitoring: Public monitoring

Open models, datasets, demos, model cards, and community discussion often appear with or before written coverage.

Evidence treatment: Verify the uploader, license, model or dataset card, version, linked paper or repository, and independently relevant limitations. Popularity is not quality evidence.

4. Official frontier-lab research and newsrooms

Monitoring: Public monitoring

First-party model releases, capability updates, technical reports, API changes, and system cards.

Evidence treatment: Primary evidence for what a lab announces, not independent proof of comparative performance, safety, adoption, or availability.

5. GitHub repositories and releases

Monitoring: Public monitoring

Code, evaluations, training recipes, inference tools, agent frameworks, and implementation evidence often appear before broad coverage.

Evidence treatment: Inspect repository ownership, release or commit history, documentation, license, tests, linked paper, and reproducibility evidence. Stars are not validation.

6. Reddit — r/MachineLearning and r/LocalLLaMA

Monitoring: Public monitoring

Early practitioner discussion, replication reports, open-model tests, local inference techniques, and practical failure reports.

Evidence treatment: Discovery and critique signal only. Distinguish direct testing from opinion or rumor; verify releases, benchmarks, and claims at their origin.

7. Hacker News

Monitoring: Public monitoring

Early technical discussion of papers, releases, repositories, and new tools, often with useful implementation caveats.

Evidence treatment: Discovery and critique signal only. Trace submissions and factual claims to original evidence; comments can supply questions, not confirmation.

8. Specialized AI Discord communities

Monitoring: Assisted review

Real-time implementation discussion around research groups and model families can reveal early working examples and limitations.

Evidence treatment: Discovery signal only. Use only official or verified community access, never expose private discussion, and require public original evidence before selection.

9. YouTube — official labs and researchers

Monitoring: Assisted review

Official demonstrations, paper walkthroughs, research talks, and early technical explanations can precede written coverage.

Evidence treatment: Verify channel identity, upload date, runtime, claims, and linked original evidence. Demonstrations and commentary are not independent validation.

10. AI conference sites and OpenReview

Monitoring: Public monitoring plus assisted review

Conference programs, camera-ready papers, public reviews, and author responses add scrutiny and revisions to earlier preprints.

Evidence treatment: Record review stage and version. Separate accepted or camera-ready work from submissions, workshop papers, reviews, and author responses.
